Photography & ART

My Journey in Art

My passion for art began in Grade 2, where I first started exploring creativity under the guidance of my first art teacher, who visited our home. This initial phase laid the foundation for my artistic journey.

From Grade 6 to 8, I expanded my learning by attending lessons at another teacher’s place, delving deeper into techniques and styles. During Grades 10 and 11, my school art teacher became a significant influence, helping me refine my skills.

I primarily worked with watercolors and acrylics, focusing on realism and drawing inspiration from Renaissance-era styles. I particularly admired the muted, earthy tones characteristic of that period. Alongside formal training, I invested time in self-study, exploring various techniques to develop my unique artistic approach.

In 2018, after completing my Advanced Levels, I transitioned to oil painting—a medium that allowed me to explore realism on a deeper level. I relied heavily on online resources to enhance my understanding and skills. Simultaneously, I began experimenting with graphite and charcoal, embracing the precision and contrast of pencil-based drawing.

Today, my work reflects a blend of traditional influences and modern techniques, all rooted in my enduring passion for art and a commitment to continuous learning.

My Journey in Photography

My love for photography began in Grade 4 when my parents gifted me a Kodak analog camera for my birthday. This small gesture sparked a lifelong passion. A few years later, my father gave me a small digital camera, which further fueled my interest.

I joined my school’s photography society, a pivotal moment in my journey. Under the mentorship of Mr. Nalinda, my perspective on photography transformed. He nurtured my skills and inspired me to view photography as an art form.

During this time, I actively participated in numerous photography competitions, winning several awards and cash prizes. These achievements motivated me to keep pursuing my passion. Eventually, I upgraded to my first DSLR camera, a Nikon D5000 with an 18-200mm lens. After a brief hiatus, I transitioned to a Sony A6400, and today, I proudly use a Nikon Z6II.

Now, I work as a freelance photographer, capturing moments and stories locally. My journey has been one of growth, discovery, and a deep commitment to the art of photography.
